“If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness, and creativity.”

Portrait of ECKHART TOLLE

Eckhart Tolle (born Ulrich Leonard Tölle, February 16, 1948) is a German-born spiritual teacher and author, celebrated worldwide for his works The Power of Now and A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. Raised in Germany and later moving to England and Canada, Tolle endured years of anxiety and depression until, at age 29, he experienced a profound inner transformation that dissolved his sense of suffering and opened him to a state of lasting peace.

Following this awakening, Tolle spent several years living quietly, absorbed in what he described as a “state of deep bliss,” before beginning to teach others. Drawing from Christian mysticism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Sufism, he emphasizes presence, awareness, and freedom from ego as the essence of spiritual life. Without formal affiliation to any religion, his teachings resonate across traditions and cultures.

In 1995 Tolle moved to Vancouver, Canada, and soon began writing his first book, The Power of Now. Published in 1997, it became an international bestseller after Oprah Winfrey and other prominent figures endorsed it, eventually selling millions of copies worldwide. His follow-up, A New Earth (2005), expanded on themes of awakening consciousness, human transformation, and living in harmony with the present moment.

In 2008, Tolle collaborated with Oprah on a series of live webinars that attracted tens of millions of viewers, further cementing his global reach. By 2011, Watkins Review named him the world’s most spiritually influential person, and in 2016 he was included on Oprah’s SuperSoul 100 list of visionaries.

Today, Tolle continues to teach through books, lectures, online courses, and retreats. His message remains simple yet profound: liberation is found in stillness, beyond identification with thought, by awakening fully to the present moment.
